Polls show that Theresa May must go. As UK Conservative party faces annihalation

The result of the latest ComRes Poll shows that Theresa May’s deal is the least popular Brexit option among UK voters.

42% of people oppose this EU wish list dressed up as a deal whereas just 26% support it.  Though fortunately for British democracy, only 40% also support a second referendum with well over 50% opposed.  One of the most interesting conclusions from a variety of all recent polls is how little has changed in terms of public opinion, with one poll showing exactly the same percentage as the 2016 referendum.  Turns out,  the British are not as ignorant as mainstream media would have us believe.

Interestingly, two thirds of us agreed with the following statement; ‘the UK should try to become the lowest tax business friendliest country in Europe, focused on building strong international trade links’.  It seems that the British public are not as divided as sensationalist headlines would have us believe either.  This result is strong across every age group and varies surprisingly little by political party.  Apparently there is still some spirit left in Britian, despite efforts to stamp it out.

That people want a safe and prosperous future and an end to the endless spin and manipulation only seems to confuse the mainstream media and politicians.

But, polling is notoriously unreliable.  Organizations such as ‘yougov’ are very prominent in the media but so often wrong on key issues.  However, in broad terms, some are more reliable than others and polls are useful in understanding a general trend and the recent ComRes poll results were not even close.   That the conservatives and particularly Theresa May are likely to lose the next election as a direct result of their poor handling of Brexit is now common consensus.  Which may at first glance seem a little strange as just 21% of voters thought that Jeremy Corbyn’s government would have done a better job.  Politically, the UK is truly at a low point in terms of political leadership.  But, the really interesting trends are in the detail.

6 out of 10 believe that May’s government are doomed and out of those, even 4 in 10 of those that voted conservative agree they are finished as a party because of May’s Brexit bungle.  So what does that mean?.  Could the conservatives be about to become Britain’s third party? Let’s be honest, that they are already third rate is visible every day,  but will this break the 2 party stalemate?.   We know of no other time in modern history that a party has lost 40% of its support among its own members.  It seems that, ‘May must go’ or the party faces annihilation.

There are extraordinarily few effective politicians in the House at present, if ever there was a time for some new blood in the House of Commons then this would be it.
