First they came.. for political dissenters, for free speech advocates, for democracy.

New England Holocaust Memorial – A version of the Frederich Gustav Emil Martin Niemoller ( 1892-1994 ) poem hilighting the danger of politicial apathy.

We are reminded, more than once in recent weeks, of the famous poem by German Pastor Friedrich Gustav Emil Martin Niemoller.  One of the most outspoken Christian critics of the Third Reich in Nazi Germany.   It seems that,  with the UK elite, overtly burning democracy to the ground in their efforts to appease globalists and  the French people crushed under ever more poverty inducing taxation to pay for their unwanted guests with the promise of more, much more to come.  Extra judicial prosecutions of political dissenters and the use of mainstream media as an overt propaganda channel and the police and military becoming tools to oppress European citizens, we are all in serious trouble.   When has this happened before?

First they came…

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Catholics, and I did not speak out –
     Because I was a protestant.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

There are various groups talked about in the various versions of this iconic poem. It was written in the thirties and became a very popular warning against political apathy in light of the rise of Nazism.  It became very popular in the United States in the 1950’s.

Despite the variations on the translation or groups concerning, the fundamental point is as important now as it ever was.  In a globalist age, perhaps even more so.  When a group in power comes to take your rights, it doesn’t stop because you chose to ignore it or because it suited you on that one issue.  Indeed Niemoller himself started out aligned with Hitler as he agreed with some of his early policies, until Hitler’s end game became clear.

It starts with the outliers that are easy targets and it continues.  As a commentary on the dangers of political apathy, it is something we should all bear in mind today.

For a population to be subverted, to lose their democratic rights, to freedom of speech, equal treatment under the law and the very right to have their vote respected a population has to be complicit and had to stand by and do nothing.  The very thing that is happening all across Europe today.
